About
Flower and Land started by Jessica Stokes
.
I have been surrounded by Flowers and Plants from a very young age. Gardening at my Grandpas knee in his Rose Garden, is where it all began. Soon after completing a Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors degree, with a first class degree, I soon acquired an Allotment. I used this to teach myself the basics of Gardening and growing cut flowers. Since then I have completed a years training with the WFGA in a prestigious Organic garden, following on from this I completed my RHS Level 2 qualifications.
I went on to work in an organic walled garden as a Kitchen Gardener and Cut flower grower for over 5 years. But I now have my own business as a Gardener and Floral Designer. I am also a freelance writer, creating content for the likes of Blumenhaus Magazine, House and Garden, and Sunflower journal. Writing about Horticulture, Nature, Interiors, Art and anything that inspires and moves me. I have a monthly gardening column in The Bath Magazine.
Within my Floristry and Horticultural work, sustainability is at the heart of everything I do and champion, promoting it in all that I create. Seasonality is a fundamental principle which informs the work I create. I am forever bringing home the hedgerows with me on my travels and I strive to use an abundance of unusual, seasonal, thoughtful and creative flowers and foliage. All sourced locally and sustainably, in order to add an artful, wild, natural and curated look to my work and arrangements. I see the importance in working with nature, and not against her, using only seasonal flowers, bringing the British countryside and Landscapes into my work for everyone.
